Layer de la Haye Primitive Methodist chapel

Thanks to Martin Broom for the information that the chapel in Layer de la Haye was built in 1864.

Where was the chapel and what happened to it?

  • I went to the Centenary Service in 1964. Approaching the village from the Bounstead Brook direction, the chapel was situated on the left hand side.
The chapel itself closed in 1970, but services continued in the village school for another three years.
The organist, Mrs Hayho, wrote a history of the chapel in 1953.
