Hanford Primitive Methodist chapel

The 1883 Primitive Methodist magazine contains an account of the laying of the foundation stones for a new Primitive Methodist chapel at Hanford in the Newcastle under Lyne circuit The site was leased to the Connexion by the Duke of Sutherland. The new church would be a larger and better place to worship than their previous one.

On the 1900 and later Ordnance Survey maps , a Primitive Methodist chapel is shown on the west side of what was then called High Street, now Mayne Street, north of the junction with Wilson Lane. at the northern edge of a tile works. It is still there on the 1945 map, but not visible on Street View.
