The 1884 Primitive Methodist magazine records the laying of the foundation stones for a new Primitive Methodist chapel on Nottingham Road in Ilkeston. Previously they had meat in a cottage but the new chapel would seat 300.
The 1900 Ordnance Survey map shows a Primitive Methodist chapel on Nottingham Road at the junction with Little Hallam Lane. The building is still open as a church in 2019 and carries a tablet containing the words Primitive Methodist and a date I can’t read on Street View. I’m not convinced it says 1884 so there’s more to this story.
