The 1880 Primitive Methodist magazine tells of the laying of foundation stones for Fallow Primitive Methodist chapel, “under the shadow of the White Horse hills”. The Primitive Methodists had been holding services in the hamlet for 50 years; indeed one of the stones was laid by an 80 year old lady who had supported the cause for over 40 years.
I had no idea where Fallow was or is until prompted to look again by Richard Jennings’ comment below. I think it is actually Fawler, which is a hamlet to the east of Uffington – and I was born less than ten miles away! It is very possible there was a transcription error in the days of handwritten communication. This idea is re-inforced by Ordnance Survey maps. A Primitive Methodist chapel appears in Fawler between the 1879 and 1899 maps. By the 1971 map it is called the Old Chapel

The “North Wilts Herald” for Monday 26 July 1880 records the laying of the foundation stones. Sadly, the newspaper is faded and it is difficult to decipher exactly where the chapel was located. That said, with some search of Google, the most likely suggestion is at Uffington village (on Chapel Lane?). The chapel was in the Faringdon Circuit if that is of help
