This small rural chapel with a house attached is situated on the edge of Lune Moor and overlooks Selset Reservoir. The chapel was still open for occasional worship in 2012 but later that year it was severe damaged by fire. The result of this can be seen in the accompanying photographs. What will happen to the chapel?

It was a pleasant surprise, in September 2020, to see the Chapel building rebuilt with an added extension to the rear.

  • I checked out this page after reading David Leese’s recent comment which referred to the chapel’s link with the Middleton in Teesdale circuit. Looking at the photos of the chapel I have at last been able to identify an old photo (taken by my Grandfather Rev Alexander McDonald who was stationed at Middleton from 1923 to 1933) as being Plantation End. This photo has now been added to the page by Geoff Dickinson.
    Thanks to all!

  • In the records and on the Barnard Castle and later Middleton in Teesdale plans, this chapel is called LUNEDALE. The centenary souvenir booklet of the MIddleton circuit (undated) clearly shows this same building as Lunedale PM chapel. I have put a cross reference on this website to draw attention to this.

  • I’ve added pictures from John Anderson of the renovated chapel in August 2021 after conversion to residential use. The pictures were provided after the chapel featured anonymously on an unlabelled postcard in the August 2021 edition of the Englesea Extra.
