Wallsend: Return from the Primitive Methodist chapel in the 1851 Census of Places of Public Religious Worship
transcribed by David Tonks
The 1851 Census return tells us the chapel building was opened in 1829.
Tyne and Wear Heritage records tell us a little more. The chapel was located on High Street and was demolished in 1871.

Looking at the original 1851 return everything is the same as the transcription above, except for the capacity numbers.
The actual document seems to be –
Sittings free – 770 Others – 70 Standing 460
These do seem very large capacity, but the return also states that 94 attended Devine Service on a Sunday morning. I have been wrong before, so open to correction.
