Owen, Benjamin (1847-1897)

Family

Benjamin was born in the spring of 1847 at Wellington, Shropshire, to parents John, a coal miner, and Martha. He was baptised on 20 July 1847 at Dawley Magna, Shropshire. The family moved to Willenhall, Staffordshire when Benjamin was quite young.

Census returns identify the following occupations for Benjamin.

  • 1861 factory boy
  • 1871 PM minister
  • 1881 iron foundry manager
  • 1891 managing clerk at iron foundry

He married Annie Maria Constable (1859-1940) in the spring of 1882 in the Wolverhampton Registration District, Staffordshire. Census returns identify one child.

  • Kate (1883-1980) – domestic & nursing (1939)

Benjamin died on 21 July 1897 at Willenhall, Staffordshire.

Annie married John Sawbridge, a mortice lock manufacturer after Benjamin died.
