The church was built in 1900 at a cost of £8467. It consists of church, school, lecture hall, vestries and caretaker’s house. Later in the year – October 1899, page 796 – the Primitive Methodist magazine defended the expenditure on large chapels such as Harrogate, describing it as “In these magnificent structures we have the evidence of increased wealth and culture of the members of our church. It is reasonable also to assume that they are evidence of a deeper devotion to the cause of Jesus Christ.”
The 1899 Primitive Methodist magazine (page 396) contains a note about this chapel. The Trustees of the previous building decided, rather than extend their chapel, to sell it and spend £7,000 building new premises” close to the New Arts Schools in one of the best positions in the town”.
There is a block of flats on the site, at the junction with Bower Street, in 2008
