The former Bourne Primitive Methodist chapel in Markfield is still in 2023 in use as an active church – a Congregational one.
It was built by the Primitive Methodists in 1842. The Wesleyans already had a chapel on Holywell Lane opened in 1811 and later built a larger building on 1894Main Street.
Prims and Wesleyans moved into the former Wesleyan chapel together in 1960. The Former Prim chapel was taken over by the Congregationalists. They moved from their former chape a little further south on Main Street.
There is a fuller account of the history of chapels in Markfield on the Markfield history website here: https://www.markfieldhistory.org/post/religion-and-churches
