The 1867 Register of non-conformist Chapels includes an entry for Eastburn, near Keighley. We know they had a Sunday School because the glorious banner is in the Englesea Brook Museum of Primitive Methodism.
The Chapel shown was built or opened in 1872 and is marked on the 1889 Ordnance Survey map. In 2022 the Chapel is still open for worship and has an active Brownies group and House Group meetings fortnightly. The main entrance to the Chapel is on Main Road, with a car park entrance off Moor Lane.
The Statistical Returns for the 1940’s states that the Chapel had seating for 250 + worshippers, 1 school hall and 13 other rooms

Everything we know about the Primitive Methodist chapels in Eastburn and Steeton is on the My Primitive Methodists website. As well as a page for each of the chapels, if you search using the box at the top right corner of the page, it will bring up a few people who were involved with the chapels. There is a general guide to finding out more about a specific chapel here: https://www.myprimitivemethodists.org.uk/content/research-resources/finding-out-about-a-primitive-methodist-chapel More local Methodist historical information might be available through your circuit or District archivist who would be worth contacting.
To find out more about Primitive Methodists – and their significant links to such social concerns as trade unions, education, temperance, politics, conscientious objectors and more, by far the best source is the Museum of Primitive Methodism at Englesea Brook: https://engleseabrook.org.uk/
Hello to Christopher Hill and anyone involved in such a valuable Web Page. I am a member of Steeton Methodist Chapel(West Yorkshire) researching the positive role and social impact that early Methodists /Primitive Methodists had in this area. Im hoping it will contribute to an exhibition as park of our Yorkshire Day event in August. I would welcome contact with suggestions on resources relating to this topic. Im relatively new to the Church. Keep the Faith. Richard
