Barnsley Road, Flockton WF4 4DW

Flockton Primitive Methodist, Wesleyan Methodist and Christian Brethren chapels as they appear on the 1993 Ordnance Survey map

I can tell you that:

1. The extant building tucked away on the north side of the road was Primitive Methodist a long time ago:

2. The more conspicuous extant building, ‘The Old Chapel’ on the south side of the road, was Wesleyan:

This one is on page 158 of the 1940 list of Methodist chapels in circuit ‘669. Ossett and Horbury’ as ‘Flockton (Hill Top)’

3. A vanished building on the north side of the road was Christian Brethren in 1893 and 1906, then ‘Independent Methodist’ in 1932 and ‘Flockton Meth Ch’ in 1961-1962

I’ve not yet found this building in the 1940 list.

  • I’ve added an extract from the 1893 Ordnance Survey map of Flockton to show the assorted chapels. It replaces the links previously on this page which are no longer accessible.
