Nelson, Mary (nee Barlow) (1848-1913)

Transcription of obituary published in the Primitive Methodist Magazine

On January 31st were laid to rest the remains of Mrs. Mary Nelson, of Middlesbro. For some time past she has been in failing health, but the end came unexpectedly. Happily all the members of her family were present when she passed into the higher service.

For over twenty years she sought by unostentatious and ungrudging service to honour her obligation. In her decease the Gilkes Street Society  has lost a loyal member and faithful worker. Throughout her wearying illness she was patient and buoyant, ever grateful for the visits and kind words of friends, and always cheerful, for her hope in Christ was unshaken.

A true wife and mother, she had the joy of seeing her family grow up to profit by her example and sacrifice. One of her sons is Rev. R.W. Nelson, of Kirby Moorside, and all are interested in Christian work.

The funeral service in Gilkes Street Chapel was conducted by the Revs. F. Watkin and G.B. Richardson.
