Crawcrook Primitive Methodist Centenary Church
Main St, Crawcrook, Ryton NE40 4TY
This large Church building is situated on the A695. (Main Street). It dates from 1907 (photo 3), although opened in 1906. It succeeds a previous building built only ten years earlier, which became insufficient for the needs of the congregation. The new church building was ‘squeezed’ into a constricted site and built of golden snecked sandstone blocks. It has some very attractive windows some featuring coloured leaded glass. It has a Welsh slate roof and terracotta ridge tiles. (photo 4).
To the rear and at right angles to the main Church building is what maybe a Church Hall, built with identical building materials possibly at the same date? (photo 4).
In 2023 the Church is still open for worship, and has week-day activities and meetings.
