Wickham Primitive Methodist chapel

Wickham Primitive Methodist chapel

The 1897 Primitive Methodist magazine tells us that the authorities of the Plumstead station had secured an eligible site of land at Wickham upon which they intended to build a chapel.

A Primitive Methodist chapel appears on Upper Wickham Lane between the 1894 and 1908 Ordnance Survey maps on the corner where later Balliol Road was later built. It is still labelled as a Prim chapel in 1931 but in the 1936 map it is labelled “Free Church”.

Street View in 2009 shows it as Welling Evangelical church although the words Primitive Methodist can still be seen carved into the stone.  The carved letters are later covered by a modern sign.
