Newton, William (1819-1887)

Family

William was baptised on 25 October 1819 at Helmsley Yorkshire. His parents were Nathaniel Newton and Esther Day.

William and family emigrated to Canada in February 1851.

He married Elizabeth Carpenter (1821-1916) on 2 October 1847 at Kirkdale, Yorkshire. Records identify eight children.

  • Joseph (1849-1938) – a grocer
  • John (1851-1945) – a tinsmith (1911)
  • Esther Ann (abt1854-1883) – married William Henry Westcott, a lumber merchant, in 1879
  • Mary Elizabeth (abt1856-1942) – married Samuel Boundy, a clergyman (1900), in 1883
  • William Carpenter (1859-1861)
  • Sarah Jane (abt1860-1939) – married George Jacob Sparling, a farmer, in 1886
  • William Clarkson (abt1863-1918) – a commercial traveller (1900)
  • Alfred Edward (1866-1869)

William died on 28 April 1887 at Stratford, Ontario, Canada.
