David Tonks tells us that according to Fawcett a society was formed at Trimdon in October 1823.
The Census Return is for a dwelling house that could accommodate and impressive 150 people. It was signed by David Grieves, a 26 year old coal miner. However, it would appear that David was no ordinary miner. He had a servant in his household, as well as his wife and three children and probably his brother Robert lived next door.
By 1871 he had moved to Ludworth, near Durham, where he was a Colliery Inspector.
