Jacques, Sarah (nee Bailey) (1852-1913)

Transcription of obituary published in the Primitive Methodist Magazine by B.D.

On September 17th, 1913, Sarah Jacques died as she had lived—quietly and confidently trusting in God. Her life began at Bowden Close, September 16th, 1852, but very early the scene was changed to Gateshead. Here our sister was converted, joined our Church, and for forty-nine years held her membership without a break. Married in 1876 to Mr. Wm. Jacques, Gateshead, Chester-le-Street, Durham, Branhom and Stanley all shared her labours. At Usher Moor she opened her house for services, and with her husband succeeded in establishing a new church.

Nine years ago she returned to Stanley, her interest in her Church remaining unabated. A Methodist true to type, religion was no mere form to her, it was the greatest of all realities, the highest of all joys. The interment at Harelaw Cemetery on Sept. 21st was conducted by Revs. B. Dennison and J. Clennell.
