Provided by David Tonks

The return from West Tisbury Primitive Methodist chapel in the 1851 Census of Places of Public Religious Worship records that 53 people attended the evening service on Census Sunday. The return was completed by Luke Turner, a cordwainer and local preacher of Hatch, West Tisbury.

The services had been held since 1800 in a building which was used for other things as well as Primitive Methodist worship.
