1851 Places of Public Religious Worship

Wiltshire Places of Public Religious Worship in 1851
David Tonks 2019

This map plots the Wiltshire locations of the Places of Public Religious Worship which were recorded in the 1851 Census.  The distribution reflects the population distribution and agricultural prosperity. The greater density is across the clay vale in the north of the County and the valleys in the south.  The chalk upland in the middle is much less densely populated and would have been primarily used for sheep farming.
