Dixon, George (1839-1897)

Family

George was born in 1839 at Crooklands, Westmorland, to parents John, a spinner (1841), and Isabella. He was baptised on 10 March 1839 at Preston Patrick, Westmorland. The 1841 census return locates the family in Kendal, Westmorland.

Before entering the ministry George was a tailor.

He married Albertina Charlotte Chalmers (1844-1913) in the summer of 1876 in the Axbridge Registration District, Somerset. Census returns identify two children.

  • Frederick George Chalmers (1877-1938) – an accounts clerk (1901); captain in RAMC in WW1
  • Alexander Des Barres (b1882) – a secretary’s clerk (1901)

George died on 8 October 1897 at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London.
