Family

James was born abt1810 at Motcombe, Dorset, to parents John and Frances. he was baptised on 8 July 1810 at Motcombe.

Census returns identify the following occupations for James.

• 1841 independent means
• 1851 retired farmer
• 1861 landed proprietor

James married Amelia Susanna Godfrey (d1839) in the summer of 1838 in the Yarmouth Registration District, Norfolk. They had one child.

• Emily Susannah (1839-1923) – married Henry Tarbet, a commission merchant (1861), in 1858.

He married Frances Mayhew (1814-1886) in the spring of 1846 in the Hoxne Registration District, Suffolk.

James died on 5 July 1870 at Bungay, Suffolk.
