Lewis, Matthew (1832-1897)

Family

Matthew was born on 1 March 1832 at Gee Cross, nr Woodley, Cheshire.

He married Alice Williams (b1838) in late 1866 in the Great Boughton Registration District, Cheshire. Census returns identify five children.

• Hannah Unwin (1869-1948) – a secondary school mistress (1901)
• Edward Williams (b abt1872) – an assistant schoolmaster (1891); a nonconformist minister (1911)
• Thomas Arnold (b1873) – under manager at bleach works (1901)
• Mary Clayton (1877-1945) – a school board mistress (1901); married Nathaniel Wilson Crowther, a bank clerk (1911), in 1906
• Matthew Bowman (1881-1922) – a bank clerk (1901)

Matthew died on 21 May 1897 at Farnworth, Lancashire.
