The return from Holmes Primitive Methodist society to the 1851 Census of Places of Public Religious Worship records that the society had been using a room for preaching since 1840. The average attendance in the afternoon was 45 and in the evening was 55, although it was 14 less on Census Sunday itself.. There was no Sunday school.
The return was completed by local preacher Moses Jackson, of North Meols, near Southport.
