Bacup Primitive Methodist preaching place

Bacup: return from the Primitive Methodist preaching place to the 1851 Census of Places of Public Religious worship. Return no: 477 1 1 18
transcribed by David Tonks 2021

The return from the Primitive Methodist preaching place to the 1851 Census of Places of Public Religious worship was completed by Frederic Meredith, a schoolmaster and local preacher. The society were using a room which was part of a bigger building built before 1800.

The room was also used for a day school and was quite sizeable, holding 225 people.  The Census returns show it full to  overflowing  with congregations and Sunday school.

It was replaced by the chapel in Brickfields.  You can read about it here.
