Lumley, Caroline (nee Carpenter, nee Masterman) (1822-1902)
Transcription of Obituary In the Christian Messenger
MRS. LUMLEY, of Kirbymoorside, in the Pickering Circuit, entered into rest on May 23rd, 1902. For a long time she had been a great sufferer. It was always felt by herself and friends that the end might come at any moment, and it was not a surprise when it actually came.
Her connection with the church extended over a period of 66 years, having become a member when only 14 years of age. For more than half a century her home may be said to have been an open house for both ministers and laymen, of whom she always spoke with peculiar reverence as “God‘s servants.” No kinder hostess ever breathed.
A very large number of friends attended her funeral, many coming considerable distances. In addition to the Circuit ministers, the Revs. J. Bennett, I. Potts, and W. Skelson officiated. It was not with a hopeless sorrow that we bade farewell to all of her that was mortal. For she is not dead. To her the final change was but a passing to where there is no more pain.
