Transcription of Obituary In the Christian Messenger

JOHN THOMAS, of Liverpool, died November 16th. He was converted in a hay-loft over a stable, and soon engaged in active service for the Master. He was for 45 years an effective local preacher, and during the course of his long and active life filled the offices of leader, trustee, teacher, and superintendent. ‘His last words were of the Master in whose service his golden prime had passed, by whose power he had lived and in whose grace he died.’

Family and other information

John was born abt1827 at Bishop’s Castle, Shropshire. He worked as a warehouseman.

John married Mary Ann (b abt1827). Census returns identify one child.

  • Edward Warburton (1867-1931) – a schoolmaster.

John died on 16 November 1898 at Liverpool, Lancashire.
