Robinson, Henry (1845-1913)

Transcription of obituary published in the Primitive Methodist Magazine by W.E.W.

The earthly pilgrimage of Henry Robinson came suddenly to a close on October 3rd, 1913. He died in harness. Our departed brother was born near Newport, Salop, July 2nd, 1845. One of a large family, he early had to earn his living. As a boy he was quiet, thoughtful and steady, but when he left home he became wild and drunken. He was, however, led to the Saviour in 1867 at Howle, in the Wrockwardine Wood Circuit.

Here he made remarkable progress in the Christian life, and soon showed capability for public service. He gave special attention to Sunday-school work, and quickly became the mainstay of our cause in the village. Within a year of his conversion he was called out to preach and for forty-five years he laboured faithfully and acceptably as a local preacher. In 1879 he left Howle. and came into the district of Whitchurch, where he devoted himself with remarkable energy to pulpit and Sunday-school work.

A man who walked closely with God, apart from the family devotions which he conducted morning and evening he sought communion with God thrice daily. To the wife and son who mourn his loss we extend our deepest sympathy.
