Family
Thomas was born on 1 January 1852 at Earlswood, Reigate, Surrey, to parents John, who worked the land (1861), and Charlotte. He was baptised on 8 February 1852 at St John, Redhill, Surrey.
Before entering the ministry Thomas worked as a builder’s labourer (1871). After leaving the PM ministry, he was a Congregational minister at Staplehurst, Kent from 1881 to 1925.
He married Ann Prior Pilcher (1858-1936) in the summer of 1879 in the Farnham Registration District, Surrey. Census returns identify four of five children.
- Muriel (1880-1952) – a board school teacher (1901)
- Sidney (1882-1943) – a printer’s copyist (1901); a bank official (1939)
- Donald (1884-1972) – a board school teacher (1901); emigrated to Canada in 1907; a piano teacher (1911)
- Wilfrid Thomas (1886-1918) – emigrated to Canada in 1907; died in WW1
Thomas died on 25 February 1936 at Staplehurst, Kent. Ann died the following day.
