Mager, Charles Purchase (1835-1873)

Ministry

 A transcription of the obituary published in the Primitive Methodist Magazine by E. Powell is attached. he summarises Charles’ character as follows: “His success as a travelling preacher was very considerable, many souls did he lead to Christ, and the circuits in which he laboured prospered. He was a man of a most amiable disposition, meek, and devout. He enjoyed religion, and was truly a godly man. The colleagues with whom he travelled found him to be a true brother, a delightful fellow-labourer, and an upright man.”

Family

Charles was born on 20 September 1836 at Bath, Somerset, to parents Charles Summer Mager, a tailor (1861), and Harriet. He was baptised on 13 December 1835 at Bath Wesleyan Chapel, Somerset.

He married Mary Hibbs (b abt1841) in the summer of 1864 in the Stroud Registration District, Gloucestershire.

Charles died on 23 February 1873 at Chippenham, Wiltshire.
