Matthews, Charles (1806-1831)

Ministry

A transcription of obituary published in the Primitive Methodist Magazine by Joseph Dixon is attached.

Charles was called into the ministry after about three years as a local preacher. Having been called into the ministry, on his way to his first appointment he took ill after sleeping in a damp bed. Whilst he was able to minister successfully at Motcombe for about 18 months he again was taken ill and had to return to his parents house where he passed away due to ‘consumption’.

Family

Charles was born on 18 December 1806 at Eaton Hastings, Berkshire, to parents Charles and Ann. he was baptised on 4 January 1807 at Eaton Hastings.

Charles died on 4 January 183 at Brinkworth, Wiltshire. He was buried on 9 January 1831 at Brinkworth.
