Mills, Charles (1824-1910)

Mr. C. Mills, of Grafton Society, Faringdon Circuit, entered into rest July 12th, 1910, aged 86 years. He was loved by all who knew him, he had laboured so long as Society steward; Class leader, Treasurer, local preacher. His remains were laid to rest in Clanfield Churchyard amid every indication of esteem.

Family and other information

Charles was born abt 1824 at Little Clanfield, Oxfordshire, to parents Joseph and Sarah. Joseph worked the land. Charles was baptised on 14 March 1824 at Clanfield, Oxfordshire.

Charles began his working life as an agricultural labourer. Later he became a pig dealer.

Charles married Elizabeth Young (1830-1911) in late 1848 in the Witney, Registration District, Oxfordshire. Census returns identify nine children.

  • James (1851-1922) – a draper’s assistant (1891); a watchmaker and jeweller (1901); a furniture dealer (1911)
