Transcription of Obituary in the Primitive Methodist Magazine by T.B.C.

Clara E. Morris, who entered into rest July 11th, 1906, was the daughter of William and Hannah Betts, and was born at Thetford, Norfolk, September 11th, 1868. Blessed with a Christian home and religious influences she became a member of the church in childhood. Removing to Nottingham she joined our Hockley Church where she was a member for twenty-four years. Married in 1888 to Mr. William Morris, one of our esteemed local preachers, she was a rare help to him in business and social life – a helpmeet indeed. Physically weak she yet was a brave soul and lived to serve. In bazaar work, prayer meetings, sick visitation, she carried sunshine and sweetness everywhere. Her life in the home and in business as well as in the sanctuary was full of self-sacrificing effort to do good. To her home the young people especially were heartily welcome, and gained glimpses of what a Christian home may become. By tact and sympathy she drew out the best others. In love she served and all who knew her were the richer for her fellowship. From severe and prolonged suffering she seemed to gather larger trust in our Father and new joy in the Saviour’s love.

After a critical operation four years ago she recovered, but her health was never robust, and in December, 1905, after a bazaar effort, she was taken ill with a mysterious affliction which lasted until she died.

Hers is a well-earned rest, but the blank in our church cannot be filled. She has joined her much loved Minnie, her only child, who passed to the Homeland eleven years ago, and in the glad rapture of the blessed life she serves still the Lord she loved. Her family and friends sorely miss her, but look forward to meet her again where good- byes are never said.
