Parker, James B (1813-1840)

Ministry

A transcription of the obituary published in the Primitive Methodist Magazine by William Stinson is attached. He writes as follows: “ As a public speaker he selected topics for the pulpit which were adapted for general usefulness; and his address, though natural and easy, was impressive. Of private conversation he was sparing, perhaps to a fault, but when he went out of himself, as it were, his subjects were instructive, and were expressed in a manner which secured the attention of those whom he addressed.”

Family

James was born on 4 July 1813 at Brigg, Lincolnshire. His obituary records that his father died when he was about nine years old. He was apprenticed to an uncle as a tanner and fellmonger at Silversides, nr Brigg, when thirteen years old.

James died on 25 August 1840 at Church Greasley.
