Parker, Joseph Josiah (1842-1922)

Family

Joseph was born abt1842 at Tipton, Staffordshire, to parents Joseph Parker, a miner (1851), and Mary Ann Speed. He was baptised on 16 January 1842 at Tipton.

Census returns identify the following occupations for Joseph.

  • 1861 coal miner & Methodist local preacher
  • 1871 PM minister
  • 1881 dairyman
  • 1900 preacher
  • 1910 clergyman

Joseph emigrated to USA arriving on 14 May 1883. After some time in New York, he moved to Nebraska.

He married Elizabeth Sadler (1845-1899)  in the summer of 1868 in the Great Boughton Registration District, Cheshire. Records identify ten children.

  • Charles Sadler (1870-1952) – a dentist (1915)                    
  • William Belmont (1871-1934) – a literary editor
  • Martha Jane (1873-1979) – married Ralph J Pugsley, a carpenter (1930), in 1903
  • Annie (b1877)  – married Oscar S Hansen in 1905                   
  • Edith M (b abt1880)                      
  • Frederick James (b1881)          
  • Florence (1885-1973) – a teacher (1910); married Robert G Kyle, a farmer, in 1914
  • Emma J (b abt1887)
  • Joseph Speed (1890-1972) – a book-keeper (1910); a dentist (1930)

Joseph died on 19 June 1922 at Orange, California, USA.
