Parrott, Henry (1858-1936)

Transcription of obituary published in the Minutes of Conference

HENRY PARROTT: born at Barton-on-Humber in 1858. He was accepted for the Ministry of the Primitive Methodist Church at the Conferference of 1887. He was sent at once to the North Camp (Aldershot) Mission as a soldiers’ missionary. Under his care the mission prospered and a beautiful church was built at Brookwood. He subsequently travelled at Pewsey, Malvern, Bow, Woodfalls, and Winchester.

He was a forceful preacher and a strong man. In most of his circuits he was the champion of Free Church liberties; always a minister of Jesus Christ first, his love for his people thrust him into public service, and on the Board of Guardians and on Education Committees in rural districts he did valuable work. He retired in 1927 to Hereford, but he could not cease to serve. Crippled as he was in his later years, he continued to preach, often delivering his message from a seat in the pulpit.

He passed away on September 20, 1936.
