William was born in 1830 at Horncastle, Lincolnshire, to parents George Pogson, a tailor (1841), and Esther Sutton. He was baptised on 9 December 1830 at Horncastle.
Census returns identify the following occupations for William.
- 1861 manager of stay factory and PM local preacher
- 1871 manager of drapery and grocery at co-operatiove stores and local preacher
- 1881 draper & PM Local preacher
- 1891 draper
He married Hannah Stansfield (abt1829-1908) in late 1860 at Todmorden, Yorkshire. Census returns identify two children.
- Lilian (1864-1920)
- Harold Stanley (1866-1938) – an engineer draughtsman (1891); a book-keeper (1908); engineering secretary to a boiler making company (1911)
William died on 19 May1891 at Newton in Hyde, Cheshire.
