Family

Francis was born in the spring of 1838 at Hexham, Northumberland, to parents Francis, a millwright, and Hannah.

Census returns identify the following occupations for Francis.

  • 1861 engine builder
  • 1871 PM minister
  • 1881 bookseller and stationer employing one boy
  • 1891 stationer and letter receiver for school board
  • 1901 clerk to Benwell School Board
  • 1911 retired and pensioned school board clerk

He married Winifred Hanson (1836-1900) in the summer of 1866 in the Wigton Registration District, Cumberland.

He married Barbara Elizabeth Watson (1858-1922) – in late 1902 at Tynemouth, Northumberland.

Francis died in the spring of 1920 at Tynemouth, Northumberland.
