Chesney, Henry (Harry) Egerton (1885-1973)

The 1913 minutes record H Egerton Chesney as having ‘separated’ during the year whilst a probationer. However there is no record of him being a probationer in the 1911 or 1912 minutes. One can only presume that he became a probationer in ‘exceptional’ circumstances following the 1912 conference, but left before the 1913 conference. He later became a minister in the Presbyterian Church.

Henry was born on 22 August 1885 at Westhoughton, Lancashire, to parents Joseph Chesney, a collier, and Elizabeth Egerton.

Henry worked initially as a coal miner (1901). The 1911 census records him as a theological student

He married Faith Gertrude Pullen (1894-1964) in the summer of 1917 at Brentwood, Essex. Birth records identify three children.

  • Rex Egerton (1918-1982) – a schoolmaster
  • Barbara E (b1919)
  • Peter Sutherland (1926-1984)
