Family

John was born abt1840 at Wramplingham, Norfolk, to parents John, a hawker (1851), and Susannah.

Census returns identify the following occupations for John.

  • 1851 agricultural labourer
  • 1861 baker’s servant
  • 1871 PM minister
  • 1881 harness maker

He married Sarah Cox (1839-1913) in the summer of 1867 at Battle, Sussex. Census returns identify six children.

  • Sarah Jane Susan (1868-1947) – a nurse (1911)
  • Elliott Hephzibah (1870-1937) – married William George Lawrence, a salesman for market gardener (1911), in 1898
  • John Reeve (1871-1951) – a bootmaker & repairer (1911)
  • William Henry (b1872) – a greengrocer & fruiter (1901)
  • Frederick James (b1876) – a sadler & harness maker (1901)
  • Arthur (b1879) – a carpenter (1901)

John died on 26 February 1884 at Tunbridge Wells, Kent.

Sarah worked as a laundress after John died. She died at Wimbledon, Surrey, at the home of her daughter Elliott.
