Pearson, Francis (Frank) (1840-1914)

Transcription of obituary published in the Primitive Methodist Magazine by T.C.S.

Wearhead Church, Westgate Circuit, has just suffered a great loss in the passing of one of its stalwarts, Mr. Frank Pearson. Born in West Allendale in 1840, and converted at the age of sixteen, he soon became a local preacher. From the age of twenty-three, for fifty-one years, he has exercised a gracious ministry in Weardale. Devout, fervent, evangelical, his messages were always effective and powerful.

How he prayed and yearned for converts; often through the hours of night when others slept. His love for God’s house was intense, and only severe illness kept him away from its services. Lavishly he gave to his Church and all good causes. The poor found in him a real friend. Ministers and local preachers found in him a real friend, appreciative and hospitable.

The  funeral in Burtreeford Cemetery was conducted by Rev. T.C. Showell; Revs. G.K. Fawell and J. Harrison (Vicar) taking part. His widow, his loving partner for over fifty years, is left in poor health, and for her the utmost sympathy is felt.
