Peet, Elizabeth (nee Kellett) (1836-1913)

Transcription of obituary published in the Primitive Methodist Magazine by R.C.

In the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Peet at the age of seventy-eight years, the Southport First Circuit has lost its oldest member and one held in affectionate regard by a wide circle of friends. At an early age she gave herself to God, and from the dawn of her Christian life evinced a great love for God’s house and His work. She impressed all who knew her with her cheerful disposition, lovable personality, unmistakable devotion to her Church, and above all, with her unobtrusive piety. Her intense spirituality created an atmosphere which made evil things impossible in her presence.

The daughter of Mr. J. Kellett, the pioneer of Primitive Methodism in Southport, her late husband was Mr. John Peet, mainly instrumental in the formation of the High Park Society and the erection of our beautiful church there.

Mrs. Peet had been in failing health for some time, and on June 3rd, 1913, she passed away. The interment at Churchtown on June 6th was conducted by Revs. F. Smith, J.E. Hughes and the writer. Rev. R. Crewdson conducted a memorial service on June 8th.
