Sampson, William of West Shefford Berkshire

Primitive Methodist Local Preacher around 1840 - 1850

If my family history research is correct William Sampson is my 3 x great grandfather.  He appears in the 1851 and 1861 censuses as living in West Shefford as a Primitive Methodist Local Preacher and gardener.  In 1871 he is shown as an agricultural labourer and by 1881 as a pauper.  I think he was was born in 1809 in Vauxhall, Surrey, married Mary Allan of West Shefford in 1845  and his death in 1884.

West Shefford appears in various sites as having a Primitive Methodist chapel which was demolished before 1960.

This is work in progress and will be slow as I live in Cyprus so I have to rely on the internet.

  • My mother’s mother’s mother Sarah Ann
Sampson, born in 1863, married Rev Henry James Seymour, born in 1862. The family lived in West or Great Shefford and were Methodists. I’m wondering if and how William and Sarah were related?

  • William Sampson was my 2x great grandfather. His son Alfred had my grandma Florence who married Frederick Randall . My mother Nora married George Hampshire.

I have been unable to trace back from William or from his wife Mary Allen , whose mother was Sarah Allen but I can’t find a father.
