Transcription of obituary published in the Primitive Methodist Magazine by P. Oliphant Hirst
Mr. John Smith, of Glasgow Second Station, was a member of our Church for forty-five years. Born in 1846, and converted in the old meeting-room in Dunlop Street, Tollcross, in 1863, he came on the plan some three years later. For many years he rendered specially effective service as School Superintendent. A Trustee of our present Church, he was held in high esteem by his brethren. A man of strict piety and sterling character, he was one of the finest products of our Church life in Scotland.
Brother Smith was specially fortunate in his home life, his wife and children being, like himself, devoted followers of Jesus Christ. His last illness was borne with Christian fortitude, and he fell on sleep, February 22nd, 1911.
Sincere mourners were present at the funeral service, conducted by Revs. P. Oliphant Hirst and G.E. Wallace, in Tollcross Churchyard on Feb. 25th.
