Shucksmith, Mary Ann Elizabeth (nee Sanson) (1858-1910)

Primitive Methodist Magazine 1911

Transcription of obituary published in the Primitive Methodist Magazine by J. Wesley Waddell

Mrs. Shucksmith was born May 11th, 1858, at Priory Place, Old Lenton, Nottingham, and when the family removed to Barnsley in the early seventies they joined  our Westgate Church, and Mary remained in fellowship till her death. She had a high ideal of what a Christian ought to be, and was a real mother in Israel.

Though always delicate in health, she accomplished much good among the poor and needy, and was passionately devoted to Westgate Church. She was her husband’s right hand in home, business and Church, encouraging, helping, insisting, not counting her own fatal sickness a sufficient reason for him to neglect public worship. She had a quiet, sweet spirit, though she carried a heavy cross.

After a short illness of ten days, she passed peacefully away Oct. 30th, 1910, in the presence of many devoted friends. She was interred in Barnsley Cemetery, and Rev. J. W. Waddell preached a fitting memorial sermon, when the church was crowded. She lived a well-spent life and left behind a magnificent testimony of the preciousness of Christ her Saviour.
