Webb, Mary (nee Yoxall) (1791-1864)

Transcription of obituary published in the Primitive Methodist Magazine by S Parkin

MARY WEBB, wife of the Rev. T. Webb, died at Bottesford April 8th, 1864, in the seventy-fourth year of her age. Mrs. W. was brought to God at Betley, in Staffordshire, in the year 1815, under the labours of the late Rev. W. Clowes, her husband also being converted about the same time.

In 1819 Mr. Webb was called into the ministry by the Tunstall circuit, and he continued to sustain the position of an itinerant preacher for thirty years, during which time Mrs. W. creditably performed the duties of a minister’s wife; and in some circuits in which her husband travelled she fulfilled the duties of a class-leader.

After the superannuation of her husband, and when infirmities had rendered him helpless, she tended him with devoted care. She died, after one week’s illness, in hope of the resurrection to eternal life.
