A transcription of journal extracts published in the Primitive Methodist Magazine is attached. This covers time as a missionary from Tunstall circuit in 1822.

Kendall reports that Sarah was the first named Primitive Methodist to mission Shrewsbury. On Sunday 30 June, 1822, she preached three times in the streets of Shrewsbury, led the class, and “joined” nine new members. She remarks that there were now forty-four in society. From this Kendall concludes that she must have been proceeded by some other missionary.

Research Notes

A Sarah Spittle married Thomas Sedgwick on 6 December 1828 at Wellington, Shropshire. This is close to the Wrockwardinewood station.

Was Thomas the clock and watchmaker born in 1795 at Lichfield. His family was in Marsh upon Dove in 1841, nr Burton on Trent, and later in Derby. His wife, Sarah was born abt1800 at Wednesbury, Staffordshire. She died in the spring of 1886 at Derby.

A Sarah Spittle was baptised on 7 December 1800 at Wednesbury, daughter of William and Ann.
