Hobson, Mary (nee Massam) (1831-1913)

Transcription of obituary published in the Primitive Methodist Magazine by J.P.O.

On, Feb. 16th, 1913, Mrs. Mary Hobson, of Longthorne, Bedale Circuit, passed to the Homeland at the ripe age of eighty-two years. By her death the Church and Circuit has lost one of its oldest and most useful members. For more than fifty years her stainless character and example have been an inspiration to many. Her religious life was steady and practical. For many years she was a missionary collector, and brought scores of pounds to the funds. During the whole of her married life ministers and local. preachers shared her hospitality.

Family

Mary was born abt1831 at Melsonby, Yorkshire, to parents William mass am, a farmer, and Christiana Finlah. She was baptised on 2 March 1831 at Melsonby.

She married William Hobson (1835-1901), a farmer, on 27 November 1862 at Hornby, Yorkshire. Census returns identify two children.

  • Isabel (abt1866-1951)
  • Christiana (abt1868-1943) – married William Thompson, a farmer, in 1896

Mary died on 6 February 1913 at Langthorne, Yorkshire.
