Hall, Edwin (1794-1854)

Transcription of obituary published in the Primitive Methodist Magazine by Joseph Hibbs

Died at Tredegar, January 12th, 1854, EDWIN HALL, aged sixty years. He accompanied the first Primitive Methodist missionary who visited South Wales to different places in order to protect him, and being an athletic man the preacher was seldom interrupted when he was with him. He then reformed his life, but was not truly converted until several years afterwards. He did not, however, hold fast his confidence, but fell into sin, forsook the house of God, and became very hardened and careless about his soul, until about three years ago, when he was happily reclaimed.

From that time to his death, he was pious and earnest; his experience was sound and scriptural. The night before his death, he attended a prayer-meeting, and was led out in prayer in an extraordinary manner, so that all present felt it good to be there. About ten o’clock on the following night he died without a struggle or a groan. He has left a widow, who is trying to follow him to heaven, whither we doubt not he is gone.
