Family

William was born on 3 September 1898 at Hornsea, Yorkshire, to parents William James Ward, a PM minister, and Martha Ann Sale.

The 1939 register records William as a civil servant with the Inland Revenue.

He married Clarice Bowmer (1900-1977) in the spring of 1923 at Ebenezer Methodist Chapel, Station Road, Whittington Moor, Derbyshire. Birth records identify one child.
