Family
William was born on 22 January 1837 at Barton, Nottinghamshire, to parents Gervais, a shopkeeper (1841), and Ann.
He married Hannah Cook (b1837) in the spring of 1862 at Hull, Yorkshire. Census returns identify three children.
- Lucy Cook (1866-1940) – married William Baker, a grocer & wine merchant (1901), in 1894
- Florence Emily (b1868) – a governess (1891)
- John Thompson (1872-1899) – a chemist; died in Bombay, India
William died on 16 August 1884 at Truro, Cornwall
